Wales has been given the go-ahead by the government to start re-opening businesses. So far we have been told the change will be gradual and this will hopefully help people and businesses ease into a completely new routine.

Businesses will have to put special measures in place to protect their staff and their customers and that is why they have been given a few weeks to prepare for these changes.

What are the changes coming in the next few weeks?

It has been confirmed from the 11th July self-catering accommodation can re-open.

Pubs, restaurants and cafes will be able to open outdoors. Barbers, hairdressers and mobile hairdressers will also re-open from the 13th of July.

Places such as playgrounds and community centres will open from the 20th July, which means they will open just before the summer holidays.

From the 27th July places such as tattoo parlours, cinemas, museums and galleries, beauty salons will be permitted to re-open.

It has been announced that if the opening of pubs, restaurants and cafes goes well and the virus is controlled, then they will allow for these places to open their indoors facilities from 3rd August.

Back to School

All of these news come after it was announced that schools in Wales will be able to fully open in September on a full time basis, for all pupils.

Schools will be given the option to open either on the 1st September or the 14th September.

It has been said the two-week window will give headteachers time to prepare or will allow year groups doing exams to come back two weeks earlier.

However we do have to keep in mind, these changes will only happen if there is a continued decline of Covid-19 within the community.

We cannot deny that some people will still feel apprehensive, because even though the shops will start to re-open, the Covid-19 is still out there. But it is also a relief for businesses to be given the chance to re-open and get a sense of normality again.

With the current conditions, thousands of employers are requesting that their employees work from home to comply with the social distancing measures of the lockdown, and here we bring you five working from home tips to make you more efficient.

You might be used to work from home, or some of these tips might sound small, but when they are all done together, your efficiency will increase, and so will your mood.

1. A good night sleep

A good day of work starts from the night before, and we are all guilty that because we don’t have to be in work by a specific time, we then decide to go late to bed and binge on the new episodes of Brooklyn 99.

Research shows that a night of good sleep is the perfect recipe to a happy, productive day, so make sure you get a good 7-9 hours sleep.

The good thing about working from home is that you don’t waste time commuting, so no need to wake up at 6 am now you can wake up an hour before to get ready to work for 9 am at your home desk.

2. Set A Working Schedule

Being at home makes it very hard to get the motivation to start to work, what we suggest is to set home working hours, we recommend 9 am to 4 pm with a one hour lunch.

Working from home can be more productive than working from the office if appropriately done, that’s why we recommend a six-hour work block rather than the typical eight hours when working in an office.

You see the time you spend socialising with your colleagues, walking from boardroom to boardroom is time wasted, time that is not lost when working from a home office.

3. Get Dressed And Get Out Of Bed

It might come as silly advice, but many stays at home workers try to work from bed, or in their PJ some even in just underwear ( I guess no conference calls for them ).

Getting ready as you do for work is the best thing, brush your teeth, do some workouts, take a shower, have breakfast, get dressed put makeup and even perfume, yes, get ready.

It doesn’t mean that you need to put on your slacks, tie and dress shoes, no, that’s not what you are looking for, get ready like if you were going out, this would get your head into out of the house mode resulting in concentrating or as the kids say #Workmode.

4. Dedicate A Space To Work ( Home Office )

having a work office could be simple as a space in your dining table, or a spare room in the house, some people are using the garages. Garages are perfect as you are still in the house, but out of the house, so in your mind, it feels like you went to a workplace.

If you can’t or don’t have the possibilities of working form a garage in your home then having a corner in your house strictly for work is all you need.

Having an area for work will help your productivity and will also separate you from home life, this way you can concentrate in work, and when work finishes, then you go back to family/home life.

Having this separation, these separate spaces, it will help you with your mental health and wellbeing as you feel like you are removing yourself from being lockdown at home.

5. Take Breaks

Many get stuck to the computer thinking that they need to show that they are doing all their work and that they don’t want to let down their team, others just get lost in the amount of work and will stay sat for hours and hours.

Although as a working from home tips it is recommended to do some exercises before you start to work at home, to help you with mobility, elevate your heart rate and pump you with energy, it is recommended to take breaks.

Five minutes breaks every 30 minutes is the perfect ratio, get up and walk, get a coffee, go to the toilet.

It will help with circulation, gives your back a break from sitting down, as well as your eyes from looking at a screen.

Sometimes 5 minutes brakes result in breakthrough; as you take your mind away from the desk, it is found that the brain resets and can help you with ideas or find the answer to a problem.

A great working from home tip is taking walks/runs during the day; it is a technique mostly used by top CEOs.

You might have seen the previous USA president Barack Obama going for a little run around his office in the White House; many sources say he did this to clear his mind and find solutions to problems.

Don’t feel guilty into thinking that you are wasting time; it is similar to walking to the printer at the office to get a paper, going to a colleagues desk to ask a question or toilet brakes.

Remember taking these small brakes will help you concentrate and maybe find answers to your questions when you return from your brake.

If you find it too difficult to keep track of the time you can always use a timer on your phone, nowadays they are pretty straightforward and only a few steps to set up, or I will leave links to Focus Time an app that you might enjoy and help you with taking brakes while you immerse yourself in work.

As mentioned above, don’t forget to plan your lunch break, this is very important as you can easily forget to eat, or have the time to eat a healthy nutritious meal when you are home.

Bonus Working From Home Tip: Prepare Food

Following from the above point about taking brakes, a vital break to plan is your mealtime, and for that, it is also advised that you meal prep.

If you already do this for when you work at your office, then continue to prep your meals in the same way.

Preparing your meals the day before or in the morning will help you on either not eating or doing something similar to NBC News tech investigations editor Olivia Solon eating chunks of Parmesan and some weird protein ice creams.

At the office, there’s always access to the canteen or shops, and that’s the option most people take, but as we know that’s not an option in the current lockdown, this brings us back to our point of meal prep.

Prepping your meals in advance will also help against raiding your fridge or cupboards eating all the little treats hidden away but not the best for every day eating.

Another reason it is advised to prepare your meals in advance is that it might take you longer than your allocated lunchtime to cook a whole meal, being prepared will help you stay true to your time blocks and will keep you in track with your work.

Please let us know if you find these tips useful and if you are looking to implement any of these, alternately if you have any suggestions or your own please share it with us on the comments below.

The UK has suffered its highest daily death to coronavirus so far, meaning that yesterdays good news, have changed.

Todays Summary

Unfortunately, there are another 393 deaths after contracting coronavirus – taking the UK total to 1,808 this is a sharp increase from yesterdays 180.

Seven of these deaths are from Wales.

This increase has now brought the UK to a total of 25,150 confirmed cases of coronavirus.

NHS England reported that Luca di Nicola, a 19-year-old assistant chef from Italy, died in London after testing positive for the coronavirus, with no underlying health conditions he is among the further 367 deaths in England.

Luca’s brother Davide (R) has paid tribute to his sibling, saying ‘I love you brother’. Pic: Facebook

It is understood Luca was “very healthy”, and according to Italian newspaper La Repubblica, he was from Nereto in central Italy.

We Must Go Further Faster

Michael Gove said “we must go further faster “as he thanked and asked UK companies to help produce new ventilators.

Business from the likes of formula 1 are among the ones helping increase ventilators available to the NHS; it was confirmed that the UK government is also buying ventilators from EU distributors.

He said: “We have just over 8,000 ventilators deployed in NHS hospitals now. This number has increased since the epidemic began thanks to the hard work of NHS professionals, but we need more.”

Michael Gove emphasised that “green shoots” of better news does not mean restrictions can be eased.

It is vital people continue with social-distancing

Michael Gove

Gove insists there must be no premature “relaxation or slackening” of the social distancing and isolation measures currently in force.

He says the steps people are taking are crucial to the “united national effort” to limit the number of deaths. “They are making a difference, and we must not let up.”

Expected, The Rise Of Hospitalisation Cases

NHS England medical director said that there has been a “little bit of a plateau “, but that does not mean we are “out of the woods ”

Gove said that there are some signs that we might be able to flatten the spread of the covid19, but it is not time to relax social distancing rules, just after the NHS England medical director Dr Powis said that “the next week or two will be critical “

Professor Powis said that they expected the rise of hospitalisation cases at this stage of the epidemic.

However, he also said that if the number of people getting infected drops then so will reduce the amount of hospitalisation.

he added; the good news here is that that line is not going up very steeply, but we are not out of the woods. We need to keep our foot on the pedal.”

Apologies For The Optimism On PPE

Jenny Harries said that maybe in a year time the UK would be able to provide the real numbers of how many people were infected by the covid19

She had also apologised for her optimism on PPE on her previews conferences; Harries said that the distribution has been tricky and acknowledges the situation can be “quiet frightening “for NHS staff.

She also added that they are developing an electronic system to make it easier for care homes to access the PPE they need.

Today Key Points

  • The steps taken with the lockdown like social distancing seemed to be working and helping the HNS, but at the same time, they emphasised that it is not time to ease on the social distancing rules.
  • There will be a rise in people infected but if we keep doing so well with social distancing the NHS will be able to cope with the severe cases as planned.
  • The government is still working on finding PPE equipment for our HNS staff and have thanks local business for stepping up and helping as well as purchasing from EU countries and making new orders from China.

The Council is making changes to Bin Collections In Cardiff due to the Corona Virus outbreak.

Changes in the bin collections in Cardiff have been implemented to keep residents and staff safe. This is understandable as they want to lower the risk of the staff and the residents getting infected by this virus. Even though some services have been cancelled, there are still other services currently running and will be in constant review by the council.

In Cardiff starting from Monday 23 March, Garden Waste will no longer be collected until further notice.

From Monday 30 March Recycling bags will be collected on a fortnightly basis. They will be collected on the same week as general waste (black bin.)

Residents on the Glass Collection trials have been instructed to put glass items in their green recycling bags for collection. As the trials have been cancelled for now.

Recycling Centres

Recycling centres at Lamby Way and Bessemer Close are now closed, due to government advice.

There is no lie that these changes can possibly have some effects on households but it is important for the council to try and keep a good service, especially for those residents that need help the most.

For more details on bin collections in other areas around Cardiff, check your local council website.
